“The best leaders never forget that the business of education is improvement, not perfection.” – Todd Whitaker, What Great Principals do differently
I sincerely have enjoyed the invaluable relationships that have formed through our leadership academy endeavor – with so many unique members that all bring a vast array of their own experiences. Although we are all at different environments/schools, we all are striving for improvement in the field we love! That’s inspiring!
I have really enjoyed the questioning, the conversations, the twitter chats, and working closely with my PLP (Professional Learning Plan) group. Check out our website: http://gpcsdleadership.weebly.com – It’s a collection of all of our reflections throughout the year and we plan to continue this venture throughout our leadership years.
Thanks to everyone involved on this path!

Leadership Academy Year Reflection
ON APRIL 29, 2016
BY MIKE LEMAY
It is hard to believe that the first year of leadership academy is already coming to a close. The insights and knowledge gained toward improving my overall leadership practice whether being through the session topics, reading material, discussions and presenters has been an invaluable gift that leaves me feeling truly blessed for having had the opportunity to take part in it at onset of my leadership career in leadership. The highlight for me has to be the camaraderie and networking among the other fellow participants that has developed as a result of being part of this initiative. It is so beneficial to be able to be connected with others in other buildings and learning from their experiences in addition to one’s own. This district is filled with so many talented individuals and by putting them together in a program such as this, one can’t help but come out of it feeling motivated, inspired and pushed to grow. I am looking forward to what year two brings.

My Take away from year one …ON MAY 12, 2016 BY CMACMILLAN IN UNCATEGORIZED LEAVE A COMMENT EDITI started over this year. New Job in a new school. I would be lying to you all if I said I wasn’t scared of the big change. I’m blessed to be a part of a great team at MT that helped me with the transition. I also was excited to be a part of the new Leadership academy cohort— it gave an opportunity to learn and have meaningful conversations with colleagues from all over GPCSD. It allowed me to ask questions and ask for opinions from others in different schools. Leadership helped with Networking and professional learning but I also made some new connections that go beyond the leadership community. Excited for year two — new learning and challenges.
what did I learn this year…
- Schools are like a diverse ecosystem – There are so many roles that people play in ensuring the ” system ” runs smoothly
- Teamwork is key – Props to all
- Be flexible — No day is like the day before

Year 1 of leadership academy;
What a year of learning for me; from the students, the staff, and the leadership academy. It’s great how collaboration can help build ideas, confidence, and wisdom. I felt this year I did a lot more reflecting on my practice – both as a teacher and as an administrator.
This leadership academy has been a great learning piece for me. The monthly group discussions whether on Twitter, blogging or face to face, has made me reflect each and everyday. I’ve reflected on how I can help and support the school community. There have been days that I’ve felt successful and days I’ve felt frustrated but I’ve always felt like I could share the success and failures with the leadership group. At the end of the day I always come away with ideas on how to move forward and help those around me.
Thank you all for a wonderful year!
